Frankfurt’s infrastructure is not only impressive regarding inner city traffic, the city is even internationally well connected- Frankfurt International Airport is this link with the world. With its advanced technical equipment, the airport can coordinate all feeder flights, for example, the passengers of an Airbus A380 arrive at Frankfurt Airport via 60 to 80 feeder flights. There are 188 parking positions for large planes. In 2012, over 2 million tons of cargo passed through Frankfurt Airport. Passengers are transported by 107 airline companies which fly to 295 destinations, in the cargo sector, 27 airlines fly to 78 destinations. The owner of the airport, Fraport, develops the airport like a proper city district with shops, entertainment and extensive services. Customers can shop and dine in 60 shops and restaurants. Visitors, families and groups are invited to book a tour of the airport which lasts 45 minutes. Fraport states that its strategy is environmentally sustainable and that it works to check and improve air pollution and noise prevention.
The latter is very important to the local residents living on one of the approach corridors of Frankfurt Airport.
